WWF welcomes announcement of the Green Climate Fund HQ

green climateCape Town, South Africa – WWF welcomes the announcement today by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) board to locate its headquarters in Songdo, Incheon City, South Korea.

The GCF was established in terms of the United National Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in order to assist the developing countries fund work to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

WWF’s Tasneem Essop, head of the low carbon frameworks programme, says the opportunity now is to swiftly operationalise the work of the fund in order that support to developing nations can proceed unhindered.

“Develop countries must mobilise the resources to meet their $100bn per annum by 2020 commitment the world’s leaders must announcement their commitments at the COP18 in Doha next month.”
